Today I got to hang out at the Alterative Press Expo in San Francisco. In a nutshell: Billed as the largest gathering of alternative and self-published comics in the country, APE features hundreds of artists and publishers under one roof. APE also features an extraordinary special guests list that includes some of the top names in alternative comics along with some of its fastest rising stars.
So c'mon and check it out!! Essentially it's a bunch of folks that publish their own comics and 'zines. One of the first things I noticed is the vibe is waay chill. It's not that crazy frenetic atmosphere you might see at a toy show where everyone is tense trying to figure out how to score that toy. People at APE are casually walking about checking out all the comics, t-shirts, artwork, prints and the occassional hand-made toy. It was tons of fun and an enjoyable experience just mulling about taking my time and enjoying all the amazing artists. The picture above shows the posse of Brian Flynn, Bwana Spoons and Kiyoshi Nakazawa.

Bwana rocking the Gargamel!

Ben Seto from Black Sheep Comics introduces Skull Bunnies!!!

Phuong-Mai from Tea Club Comics shows off her new plushies bears!

I'm oddly attracted to Patrick Morgan's Whale Boy!!

A very nice guy named Wan does this interesting artwork.

I almost had to drop kick this monster from Kaiju Battel cause he was gonna wake up my daughter!!

I almost got one of these hats cause they were sooo sick...

Boobies...

These guys had some cool shirt designs

Check out these little nuggets of hand-made toys from Atrox Comics! Very tempted to buy one or four, but running out of $$$...

So there we are!! Tons of fun, chill vibe, some amazing talent, lots of cool stuff...what more could you want??!! Go next year!!
